Syrian security forces arrest three for oil theft and sabotage at Al-Jido station
What happened
Syria's Interior Security forces arrested three individuals in Deir ez-Zor on October 7 after detaining them during an operation at the Al-Jido oil station. According to a Telegram statement from AJSyriaNow, the suspects were caught red-handed stealing oil and sabotaging infrastructure at the facility. The arrest was described as occurring 'in flagrante delicto,' indicating the individuals were apprehended during the alleged criminal act itself.
Context and assessment
The Al-Jido station arrest follows a pattern of reported security incidents across northeastern Syria's energy infrastructure. On the same day, Syrian authorities launched a high-level intelligence delegation to Al-Hasakah accompanied by military helicopter operations, suggesting heightened concern over critical facilities. A separate October 7 report documented fumes from a Jabal Kokab site attributed to waste management issues. Oil theft and infrastructure sabotage in Deir ez-Zor remain persistent challenges, reflecting broader vulnerabilities in Syria's energy sector amid ongoing instability and competition for resource control.
Sources and confidence
Report sourced to @AJSyriaNow Telegram channel; single-source reporting lowers confidence. No independent cross-confirmation from Syrian state media or international monitors available. The Arabic-language original supports the claim's authenticity but does not substantiate operational details. Confidence raised by official Interior Security attribution; would increase with corroboration from SANA or second independent channel.
